OKRA
The Rev. Dana Prom Smith, S.T.D., Ph.D. (3/11/08)
As a friend of mine once said to a kith
Of the southern insurrection now called
The Civil War, “Our sympathies were with
The Union.” I, too, remain unenthralled
With okra, a pod from Africa auld,
A gift of the slave trade. Said when prepared
Well, "It is tasty." Not so, it’s impaired.
